Nursing school rundown!

First day of school in full uniform.
Yes, I actually use ALL of these books! It took me a couple weeks to keep track of which book went with which class.
Orientation day the week before school started. I was so happy that day. It just felt right, you know?
Here are some thoughts and details of the last month!
  • Completed two tests so far! I've also done 2 of 8 clinicals. My rotations this semester are at the Huntsman Cancer Institute on the post-surgical floor.
  • Never had so many episodes of numb bum before.
  • Love the things I'm learning because it's all about the human body...all day long.
  • I love learning how I'll play a part in preventing or fixing pathologies of the human body.
  • I have an even greater respect for nurses...they have to know A LOT!
  • What did I used to do with my time, seriously?
  • The "shock and awe" of huge tests are a thing of the past since from now on there's one EVERY week between the 5 classes I have. This doesn't include care plans for clinicals or the other hmwk!
  • I sadly have to choose between running or watching a show or two with James.
  • Running has won the battle, but I sure miss those shows. *sniff*
  • It's a very good day when I get to sneak in a show or go for a quick date.
  • We get to cook/eat dinner together every single night...work, school or not and I love it!
  • James is off for the summer and reads or play games next to me while I study so we feel like we can still hang out.
  • My hair is usually curly now, no time to straighten it!
  • (Everyone seems to love it and think I spend a lot of time on it, so it's a win-win situation.)
  • I go to lab or clinical Monday through Wednesday then do homework till 10pm or midnight.
  • I'm in class 8:30-4pm Thursday and Friday. Homework on Thursdays evenings till 10ish.
  • I work every Fri, Sat, and Sunday night (with 2 Sunday nights off a month).
  • I cried the first two Fridays I had to go to work because I was NOT used to going without a break day in and day out. It was rough.
  • I didn't cry on the 3rd Friday, so we're making progress!
  • I go to church anyway and have had the best personal experiences since because of it. (*One exception...last Sunday I went extra long without sleep and couldn't stay awake so James had to bring me home after sacrament meeting!)
  • Now that I'm more adjusted I look forward to going to work on the weekends, I love it there!
  • James is the best housewife ever! I do the laundry and cooking, he does everything else!
  • Had a panic attack the day before school started and seriously considered backing out.
  • Had lots of doubts the first week or two. Is this really what I want to do?
  • They scare you that first week and then once you get settled, you realize it's definitely doable.
  • Now I LOVE it and can't wait to be a nurse. It's who I am and can't imagine me without it!
  • I have made some great friends and I love being part of a cohort for the whole 1.5 years.
  • It's nice to live in the moment. No constantly thinking of what's next -I'm in the what's next!
  • I feel so much joy and satisfaction. This carries me through the challenging parts.
  • Can't wait for all the cool things I still get to learn.
  • You want to know the most ironic part of all? Since starting school.... we read scriptures every night without fail, we hold FHE each Monday, our house is always clean, I always pick up my stuff right when I'm done with it (never used to happen), I get my homework done on time, I have an A average so far, we make dinner every night, we eat healthier than ever (fruits, veggies, beans, legumes, whole grains, etc.) and I run more consistently than before....WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF BEING THIS BUSY EARLIER?

1 month down already!

How exciting! I agree, I do so much better when I am busy, busy. Though I've had the crying moments where I just haven't gotten a break and desperately need one! Good job! Keep up the good work!

As crazy and as busy as your life is now...one day you'll miss it. I am so glad I'm done with nursing school but I still look back with such fond memories! And believe it or not one day you'll be a nurse with six years under your belt and nursing school will feel like a dream!
